OUR HISTORY
RCCG LivingBread, Newcastle is part of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), which was established in Lagos, Nigeria in 1952. The Founder of the church is Late Rev. Josiah Akindayomi while the General Overseer of the church is Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye.
This ministry has over 50,000 parishes worldwide and a membership of over 50million worshippers worldwide (see www.rccg.org).
The term ‘parish’ is used to describe an administrative subdivision of a larger body of a civil or church organisation.
Pastor Thomas Akinkunmi arrived in the United Kingdom in the year 2005, being a called minister of God desired to continuously have fellowship with God, no sooner as PAT began to settle down in UK that his dear friend Pastor Cal Lawanson invited and registered PAT to attend OMC in Blackpool in April 2005.
At the OMC The GO Pastor E. A. Adeboye specifically challenged Pastors at the conference that they need to plant churches in other parts of England particularly North East instead of concentrating in London and its environs. But PAT prayed in his heart that that GOD should use him in the North East of England but PAT didn’t know that God heard and answered his silent parents. Few weeks after the conference in Blackpool, that Pastor Cal Lawanson mentioned to PAT that there’s a Macedonian call from Newcastle, that there’s no living church particularly a parish of RCCG.
He went to seek the face of God and God spoke to him about the vision of planting the church.
Thereafter plans were put in place by PCL to send me to Newcastle but the enemy attacked the vision and PCL couldn’t continue. I went back to God in prayers for 3 days and the Lord said to me that the vision is not dead and I went to see PCL to inform him of what God told me.
As I mentioned to him what God told me, PCL ‘s reply was that he discussed with a senior Pastor the day before and he’s interested in sending me to Newcastle and that’s how PCL introduced me to Pastor Jesse Adeniyi of Higher Ground Assembly in South Norwood.
Immediately I joined Higher groundAssembly and I was well received and loved by members of the parish including the leadership.
By 1st of June 2005, PJA sent me off to Newcastle with the sum £500, a set of computer system and a public address system. RCCG LivingBread, Newcastle was one of the first parishes of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in North East of England at Newcastle. It started as a house fellowship with 5 Worshippers in the livingroom of The Eze`s family at South Shields, a family of 3 including Pastor Thomas and his daughter Olabisi on the 5th of June 2005 planted through Pastor Jesse Adeniyi of the RCCG Higher ground Assembly, Norwood, London.
To further the church planting vision, the church moved to Royal Station Hotel, central Station after two weeks as the space couldn`t contain the numbers of people who later joined, the sunday service meeting was something everyone looked forward to. There was always a wonderful atmosphere of worship at the Royal Station Hotel which we occupied for a whole year.
It was at the Royal Station Hotel, Neville Street, NE1 5DH on the 3rd of September 2005 the church was formally commissioned. The church dedication and inaugural ceremony was well attended by members and non-members. The occasion was graced with the presence of some very senior pastors of RCCG Worldwide including an Assistant General Overseer Pastor J.T. Kalejaiye who prophetically declared and shaped the destiny of LivingBread. And ever since it has been from glory to glory. As the service increased in numbers, it became necessary to seek a more suitable premises. Thus, the church secured a whole flat with a garage which was converted to a church hall meeting at 220 Westgate Roadwhere the church began in earnest and dwell here for 4-5years.
The day of small beginning, the Bible says, should not be despised. It was a time of hard work, morning evangelism, packing and unpacking of equipment and cleaning of the venue just before service and re-arranging of chairs just after the service. It was a humble but busy beginning, filled with numerous activities.
All of this was accompanied by continuous praise, clapping of hands and stamping of feet in joyful enthusiasm. That small place brought every member together with love and unity being in full manifestation.
God gave the church more recognition and increased the numerical strength of the church, the church later moved to another facility at 220 Westgate road. It was this tremendous growth that prompted the church’s to start planting other churches.
RCCG LIVINGBREAD has planted 9 other parishes which are:

TO THE GLORY OF GOD The Lord blessed the church with the lease of dedicated, purpose-built premises at 94 Blandford Street, NE1 3BT
